This tool lists all word pairs found in a document alphabetically, by frequency, by order of appearance, or in reversed alphabetical order. Users may specify restrictions to narrow the results. This tool is currently only available for plain text documents. It will strip all tags from HTML or XML documents and process them as if they were plain text.

This tool’s functionality has been incorporated into Voyant available online at www.voyant-tools.org.

List Pairs (Beta) is a free, web-based tool designed to run in a browser window. It is easy to use, designed generate lists of all words pairs in a user-specified document, either hosted at a web address or uploaded from the user's files.

Users may specify a number of restrictions to limit the list. The options include ignoring all punctuation, treating sentences as a single text unit for the purposes of the search, specifying at least one word matching a user-provided pattern, including at least one word from a user-specified list, and exclude words according to either the Glasgow stop list or a user-specified list. Searching a pattern rather than a word requires skill with regular expressions and is thus not accessible to all users.

The tool’s results may be sorted according to frequency, order of appearance or in reverse alphabetical order. Display options currently include HTML, XML text in HTML, XML tree or tab delimited.

This tool currently has some problems. Its processing is slowed significantly as text size approaches novel length. In addition, while it will accept HTML and XML documents, it strips all tagging and processes it as if it were plain text.

Despite these limitations, List Pairs (Beta) is an effective way to view all pairs in a document.
