Keywords Finder - Beta (TAPoRware)
This tool identifies keywords or key phrases within a user-specified text, using the assumption that they will appear with the greatest frequency. It applies a stemmer to every word. Plain text input is recommended. All tags will be stripped from an HTML or XML file submitted, and the resulting document will be processed as if it were plain text.
Please note: This tool takes a few minutes to process a given document.
This tool’s functionality has been incorporated into Voyant available online at www.voyant-tools.org.

Keywords Finder (Beta) is a free, simple to use web-based tool designed to run in a browser window. It generates a list of keywords from a plain text, HTML or XML document at a user-specified web address or from the user's files, and displays them in an HTML page.
This tool is basic, with only one option to affect the results: an inflectional stemmer. The results page offers a list of key words and phrases, the 20 top frequency words, 10 top frequency word pairs and 10 top frequency word triplets. Users can click on the most frequent words, pairs or triplets to view a concordance for them.
The tool has a few problems. While it will accept HTML and XML documents, it strips all tagging and processes it as if it were plain text. It is also slow to process, becoming more and more sluggish as text size increases and when the inflectional stemmer is applied. Though it can handle novel-length texts, the strain on the server often results in an error, requiring the user to resubmit the tool. In addition, the tool has no option to open the results in another window or tab, requiring the use of the back button to try another text or tool.
Despite these limitation, Keywords Finder (Beta) is an effectively way to quickly identify key words or phrases within a text and generate a concordance from them.
