TAPoR Text Analysis Portal for Research

For researchers who work with text

Find a text analysis tool that fits the work.

TAPoR catalogues concordancers, annotators, topic models, stylometry packages, and visualization environments. Every record notes the platform, the license, and what the tool is actually good for.

  • Platform, license, and method on every record
  • Reviews from people who teach with the tools

Multiple Correspondence Analysis and Content Analysis

This notebook's aim is to showcase how to conduct Multiple Correspondence Analysis (MCA) on a corpus. In this notebook, we will be using a collection of novels by different authors i.e The Return of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle, Lady Susan by Jane Austen, and A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens taken from Project Gutenberg. First will gather and load in all the text. We clean them and break them down into tokens. We will categorize the tokens using General Inquirer Category taken from Harvard to conduct our analysis. From there we will conduct MCA on the results and plot the results on a scatter plot.

Nerf

Nerf is a statistical named entity recognition (NER) tool based on linear-chain conditional random fields (CRFs). It has been adapted to recognize tree-like structures of NEs (i.e., with recursively embedded NEs) by using the joined label tagging method which -- for a particular sentence -- works as follows: CRF model is used to determine the most probable sequence of labels, Extended IOB method is used to decode the sequence into a forerst of NEs. The extended IOB method also provides the inverse encoding function which is needed during the model training.
