TAPoR Text Analysis Portal for Research

For researchers who work with text

Find a text analysis tool that fits the work.

TAPoR catalogues concordancers, annotators, topic models, stylometry packages, and visualization environments. Every record notes the platform, the license, and what the tool is actually good for.

  • Platform, license, and method on every record
  • Reviews from people who teach with the tools

Zotero

Zotero is a free tool that collects, manages and cites research sources. It stays on your web browser where you do your work and it's easy to use. It's being downloaded as a firefox extension, used with the chrome and safari browsers or used as a standalone tool. It allows you to attach pdfs, notes and images to your citations, organise them into easily searchable collections for different projects, and open office using any of over 2800 citation styles. references can be added to a zotero library in many different ways: directly from databases, journal websites, google scholar or the library catalogue, by referencing file import ( for example from an Endnote library), by dragging in pdfs from your hard drive, and by entering them manually.

Search

BookLamp

BookLamp, part of the Book Genome Project, is a tool and a resource for finding books. It offers an alternative to social recommendation engines reliant on author popularity by treating its books as equal regardless of number of copies sold. BookLamp's goal is to match users to the books relevant to their interests as accurately as possible. Rather than genres, it uses 'StoryDNA', which identifies the thematic ingredients important to a book's narrative, in addition to how prominent that ingredient is within the text. BookLamp has been retired as of April 2014 and the website is no longer available. The site has been captured by the Internet Archive, and may still be viewed there via the Wayback Machine.
