CAPs Finder - Beta (TAPoRware)

This tool finds groups of capital letters (CAPs) in a user-specified plain text file. If the user submits an XML or HTML document, the tool will strip all tags and then process it as plain text. XML and HTML versions are not currently available.

Keywords Finder - Beta (TAPoRware)

This tool identifies keywords or key phrases within a user-specified text, using the assumption that they will appear with the greatest frequency. It applies a stemmer to every word. Plain text input is recommended. All tags will be stripped from an HTML or XML file submitted, and the resulting document will be processed as if it were plain text. Please note: This tool takes a few minutes to process a given document. This tool’s functionality has been incorporated into Voyant available online at www.voyant-tools.org.

Compare With Control - Beta (TAPoRware)

This tool compare the text submitted by the user with a predefined control corpus. The tool lists the words common in both texts, in an order set by the user. At present, the tool only offers the Brown Corpus, with more predefined control corpus forthcoming. Users can also upload a text of their own as control corpus. This tool’s functionality has been incorporated into Voyant available online at www.voyant-tools.org.

This tool removes all HTML formatting from a web page or an uploaded HTML file, leaving the text for further processing. It is particularly good for preparing text-intensive web pages for analysis as plain text.

CHNM: Scribe

Scribe, now in version 3.5, is a free note-taking program available for both PC and Mac. Aimed particularly at historians, this program allows researchers to create digital note cards for managing sources, research notes, contacts, images, glossaries, outlines, timelines and more. Furthermore, it enables organization, keyword indexing, searching, linking and cross-referencing of all entries. Entries can be entered directly or imported from online catalogues such as Amazon.com. Information entered in Scribe can be exported directly to Zotero in addition to assembling, printing or copying formatted bibliographies directly from the program. Articles can be stored directly within the program, enabling researchers to search out and highlight particular words within the text in addition to the relevant researcher notes.
